This fine and rare 19th century Mexican retablo represents Santa Eduviges, devoting her riches to both prisoner and indigent. Saint Hedwig, one of the more obscure subjects in retablo art, is patroness saint of Bavaria, brides, jealousy and difficult marriages. She was known mostly for her generosity, bestowing all that she could give to the sick, the feeble, the impoverished and the imprisoned.
** Displayed in a handsome 19th century period, wood frame.
Dimensions: Frame measures 10.25 inches x 8.5 inches. Retablo measures 7 inches x 5 inches.
Overall condition is excellent with only minor paint loss.
