Spanish Colonial Oil on Copper Painting. Circa 1750
This 18th century Spanish colonial oil on copper painting represents Santa Barbara, patroness saint of fire, gunners, masons, miners and storms. Having rejected the arranged marriage organized by her father, a rich pagan named Dioscorus, he beheaded her in 235 A.D., and he in turn, was struck struck down and killed by a bolt of fire from heaven.
Dimensions: 11 inches x 7 inches.
Condition: in good, original conditio. Small areas of paint loss around the edge.
