A very 19th century miniature Mexican folk retablo - San Juan de Dios / Saint John of God.
Saint John of God, patron saint of hospitals, alcoholics, the sick, firefighters and booksellers, is depicted in this retablo with all of his attributes, a crucifix, crown of thorns, and a heart - a reference to his dedication to health care workers and nurses. The retablo measures just 3.75 inches high x 2.75 inches wide.
Condition: unrestored, original, with scattered paint loss. Minor loss to lower left corner.
