San Acacio, patron saint of soldiers, and sought by those seeking relief from headaches, is depicted in this extremely rare 19th century Mexican folk retablo on tin. According to popular belief, after their conversion to Christianity and a series of miracles, San Acacio and ten thousand martyrs were captured and martyred by crucifixion and decapitation. In retablo art, Saint Acacius is almost always depicted as he is here, crucified with military attributes, banners and drums in the foreground.
Dimensions: 14 inches vertical x 10 inches horizontal.
In overall excellent, original unrestored condition with only minor paint loss.
