Woven on a traditional backstrap loom in two parts with a seam down the middle, this fine late 19th century Mexican Saltillo serape features a concentric diamond in alternating bands of red, salmon, yellow, white and burgundy. The variegated central diamond is surrounded by a tightly woven field of abrashed green and a burgundy border with white rhombus motifs. The selvedges are hand wrapped on the weft end and finished in macrame fringe on the warp end. The overall quality of the weave is superlative.
Dimensions: 85 inches x 52 inches.
Condition notes: in near perfect condition with only minor repair to selvedge (see photo).
