Salesman Sample Sombrero
Anodized Silver Thread / Felted Wool
Mexico. Circa 1900 - 1920
The sombrero has always been the centerpiece of the charro outfit and since the earliest days of its existence top manufactures have competed fiercely for the market share of the industry. Store displays and traditional printed advertising would drive sales but the strategic marketing skills of the door to door salesman would pay bigger dividends. As part of their marketing ensemble, salesman carried miniature models of commercial products which were made to the same standard as the original.
The practice of peddling and pitching samples from one door to the next was more art than skill. The adept salesperson knew which of his wares would require 'the pitch' and which would not. In the case of this sombrero sample, the quality speaks for itself. Circa 1900 - 1920.
Dimensions: The sombrero measures 7 inches diameter x 4 inches high.
