This rich and colorful mid 19th century oil on tin folk retablo represents 'The Archangel Michael', leader of the Army of God against the forces of evil. San Miguel is usually depicted as he is here, as a winged archangel in battle attire, standing triumphantly, with his fiery sword brandished. In the opposite hand he holds a set of scales. These are not the scales of justice that we are all so familiar with. These scales measure something more profound - mercy, faith and the depth of a man's soul.
Saint Michael is the patron saint of police officers, soldiers, mariners and paratroopers -- often petitioned by those who are sick.
Dimensions: retablo measures 13 inches x 19 inches.
Condition: in overall excellent condition with only minor paint loss.
