This rich, colorful early 19th century Spanish colonial oil on canvas represents The Archangel Michael, leader of the Army of God against the forces of evil. San Miguel is usually depicted as he is here, as a winged archangel in battle attire, standing triumphantly, sword brandished, with Lucifer subdued underfoot. Saint Michael is the patron saint of police officers, soldiers, mariners and paratroopers -- often petitioned by those who are sick.
The palette is rich and colorful, with iridescent gold accents and a hand painted Spanish colonial style frame to match.
Dimensions: Frame measures 30 inches vertical x 24 inches horizontal. Canvas measures 24 inches x 17.5 inches.
