This large late 18th century figural santo, of Spanish or Italian, represents Saint Francis of Assisi.
San Francisco de Assisi is the patron saint of animals and families, also petitioned by those seeking protection from fire and against dyeing alone.
Carved and polychrome painted wood with inset glass eyes, tonsured hair, caged torso and articulated arms, jointed at the shoulder and elbow.

Dimensions: overall height is 34 inches. Measures 17 inches wide from shoulder to shoulder or 30 inches wide when arms are in open position (as shown). The overall depth, with arms in open position (as shown) is 21 inches. The depth with arms released is 15 inches.
Condition: scattered paint loss and wear commensurate with age. Old devotional candle burn on one arm.
