This 18th century figural santo represents San Francisco de Paula, patron saint of the blind -- venerated for protection against fires and plague. The brown habit of The Franciscan Order is trimmed in high karat gold paint with hand scraped estofado highlights, and sealed behind glass, inside his chest cavity, is the original, unmolested reliquary of his same name. The crystal has a stable crack down the middle but is secured by a surrounding radiance of high quality silver. The pedestal base, with it's original red painted polychromy, has a hand carved angular void in the middle to match Saint Francis' footing.
Dimensions: measures 29 inches high. Base measures 12 inches wide x 10 inches deep.
