This unique 18th century carved and polychrome painted figure represents Saint Anthony, patron saint of lost articles, fertility, starvation, expectant mothers, amputees and shipwrecks. Saint Anthony is represented as a tonsured Franciscan Friar with a foliate painted habit. He has been the object of someone devotional touch, rubbed by faithful followers for centuries -- exposing the bare wood and continuing to enhance a lustrous surface patina.
Dimensions: 9.5 inches high
Condition: scattered paint loss and wear commensurate with age. Devotional surface patina, as described above. Unrestored, original.
