This late 18th century Spanish colonial oil on canvas represents 'The Seven Archangels' together with 'The Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary'. The Archangel Michael, positioned in the center of the canvas, is encircled by Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Camael, Jophiel, and Zadkiel -- each associated with a different day of the week, different celestial luminaries and different heavenly virtues. Along the lower edge The Lamb of God, alight upon the sacred book, is flanked by the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The seven keys beneath him symbolize the seven holy sacraments. The letters 'BCPCEOM' stand for:
'Bautismo, Comunión, Penitencia, Confirmación, Extrema Unción, Orden Sacerdotal y Matrimonio'.
'Baptism, Communion, Penitence, Confirmation, Last Rights, Holy Orders and Matrimony'.
Displayed in a very fine, hand carved period wood frame.
