'Nuestra Señora del Carmen', patroness of the Carmelite order, is the subject of this folk retablo from Oaxaca. Our Lady of Mt Carmel has always been associated with purgatorial miracles. She is petitioned by those seeking protection from harmful or dangerous situations and by those seeking deliverance from purgatory. She offers general aid and assistance to fallen purgatorial souls and is said to raise and rescue her faithful devotees out of harm's way.

Displayed in a fine 22 karat gilt-wood frame.
