This finely sculpted early 20th century ceremonial dance mask represents the 'negrito', the comical of clown or buffoon characterized in the 'Dance of the Negritos'. With multiple layers of carbon black paint and illustrious surface patina, this mask is incredibly well carved. The mask walls are paper thin in areas, and become so thin that the left cheek is pierced. Cedar wood. Circa 1940's.
Dimensions: approximately 8 inches x 5 inches.
Condition notes: pierced cheek, as described above.
