A good 19th-century Mexican folk retablo painting on heavy gauge tin - 'Our Lady of Mercy.' Nuestra Señora de Merced is depicted in retable art wearing the scapular shield of the Mercedarian Order and her attributable gold trimmed cloak or 'pallium.' The outstretched pallium provides shelter and protection for the faithful -- a symbol of her patronage and her role as the 'protector of mankind.'
Displayed in a high quality gilt wood frame.
Dimensions: 14 inches vertical x 10 inches horizontal. Framed dimensions: 17 inches x 13 inches.
