This colorful character, an early 20th century 'Feo' from Hidalgo, represents the ugly and ignorant ceremonial jester who provides comic relief and entertainment for the audience. In addition to their theatrics, the Feos, also called 'Chiles', petition the Gods for rain if it hasn't fallen by May.
Carved and polychrome painted wood with notched teeth and broad smile. Hidalgo. Circa 1950's / 1960's.
