A large and impressive late 18th century burl wood bowl from eastern North America. The wood species is ash with marvelous form structure, swirl patterns and fish eye clusters, a naturally occurring pattern caused by dormant buds. Large burly ash-wood bowls such as the one offered here had to be shaped by hand, a laborious and sometimes painstaking process.
Please note: The fissure along the rim is part of a naturally occurring tree knot.
The overall diameter 17 inches.
