This exceedingly fine and rare early 18th century Spanish colonial oil on heavy gauge copper represents 'La Divina Pastora', or 'The Divine Shepherdess' surrounded by a verdant landscape with a vignette in the background and her flock at her side. The Divine Shepherdess represents Mary as the Good Shepherd – guardian and defender of the sheep, safeguarding them from the evil wolf.
Attributed to one of the great colonial masters, Jose de Paez 1720 - 1790.
Displayed in a high quality 22 karat gilt wood and period frame.
Circa 1700 - 1750.
Dimensions: copper plate measures 12 inches vertical x 9.25 inches horizontal. Frame measures 16 inches x 13.5 inches.
Condition: in overall excellent, original condition with only minor paint loss.
