'La Coronacion de la Virgen Maria como Reina del Universo' or, in English -- 'The Coronation of the Virgin Mary as Queen of the Universe'.
This rare mid to late 19th century Mexican folk retablo represents two themes merged into one -- 'La Purisima Concepcion' below with The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, better known as 'La Santisima Trinidad', or, 'The Holy Trinity', above.
These two themes -- 'The Purity of Mary' and the 'Holy Trinity', are usually represented as stand alone subjects in retablo art. Here they have been combined into one -- represented as the 'Coronation of The Virgin Mary', by one of Mexico's most important retablo painters, Agustin Barajas, better known as 'The Skimpy Painter'.
Dimensions: 14 inches vertical x 10 inches horizontal.
Condition: in overall excellent, original condition with only minor paint loss.
