This late 18th / early 19th century oil on canvas represents one of the most popular themes in colonial art, The Carpenter's Shop in Nazareth. The cast includes El Santo Nino, Santa Maria and San Jose together with two winged angels assisting with carpentry chores. In a simple room filled with resplendent gold ewers and silver plates, Jose carpintero frames a large window while an angel lays out a latticed grid and young Jesus pushes a broom in the foreground. On the opposite side, Mary observes intently while stirring a kettle over an open flame.
Displayed in a high quality, hand hewn and hand carved gilt wood frame.
Dimensions: Frame measures 24 inches x 19 inches. Sight: 19 inches x 15 inches.
Condition notes: in overall good, lined condition.
