A very fine turn of the 20th century ceremonial woman's jacket from the Kauer People of Sumatra - western Indonesia. Hand loomed indigo and natural brown brocaded cotton with embroidery, nassa shell, metallic thread and appliqué. Worn only during special ceremonies and only by unmarried women. Circa 1900.
