A collection of seven extremely fine and rare late 19th / early 20th century silver 'Hamsa'.
The 'Hamsa', or 'Hand of Fatima' as it is also known, is a hand shaped amulet that is used throughout North Africa and parts of the Middle East as a sign of protection. It is a potent symbol of defense that is commonly used for protection against the powerful evil eye.
Each of the Hamsa represented in this seven piece collection was hand selected by the author of 'La Main au Maroc', with the centerpiece illustrated in the book, as shown in the photos above. A copy of the book is included with the purchase of the Hamsa collection.
The fine features of this collection include:
Each hand made from the highest quality silver
Each with beautiful hand chasing.
Several with maker's marks, including the published example.
All pieces displayed on a high quality custom made base.
All with good surface patina commensurate with age.
