This rare 19th century Mexican folk retablo on heavy gauge tin represents "El Nino Cautivo," or the "Captive Child" - a unique subject in retablo art. El Nino Cautivo is almost always depicted as he is here, in elaborate costume with shackles in one hand and two fingers pointing to God. The Captive Child is petitioned by those seeking protection from financial troubles, help with drug addiction or alcoholism
