This finely carved 18th century Spanish colonial box consists of six clear grain mahogany panels with carving on five sides. The carving on the front panel includes a large diamond flanked by a pinwheel on one side and a rosette on the other. The 'IHS' Christogram on the lidded top is flanked by the symbols of Joseph and Mary and on the back panel, the owner's names, 'Diopha Gutierez' are separated by a burgeoning tree of life.
Sturdy hand cut dovetail joinery with original wire hinges. Circa 1750.
Dimensions: 11 inches long x 5.75 inches high x 5.75 inches wide.
Condition: in overall excellent, original condition.
