This colorful 19th century folk retablo represents 'La Divina Providencia' (The Divine Providence). La Divina Providencia represents the sovereignty of God as creator of the world, human life and natural laws. Along the top edge the 'Eye of Providence' or the 'All Seeing Eye of God' watches carefully over his creations -- three winged angels and Christ, represented as The Savior of the World. The small vignette In lower left, a farmer and his cattle, is meant to represent humanity.
The retablo is attributed to Agustin Barajas - better known as the 'Skimpy Painter.'
Displayed in a period, hand painted wood retablo frame.
Dimensions: retablo measures 10 inches x 7 inches. Frame measures 12.75 inches x 9.75 inches.
Overall condition is excellent with very little paint loss.
