A pair of stunning late 17th / early 18th century Spanish colonial silver candlesticks -- each with a large footed ring base, baluster stem, node ring and a drip pan surmounted by a candle socket. The silver is hand raised and chased over nearly every inch of surface area, a laborious and time consuming process in which the silver is raised by hammering from the reverse side and furrowed from the front. The florid repousse and elaborate chasing manifested in this pair of candlesticks is sublime. With the exception of the carriage bolt that joins the various components, the candlesticks are made entirely of the highest quality silver, including the wing nut.
Weight: 43.6 oz and 44.1 oz respectively.
Dimensions: 15 inches high. Ring base measures 8.5 inches diameter.
Condition notes: In overall excellent condition with original patina present. No buffing or machine polishing.
