Exceedingly fine and rare early 18th century Spanish colonial silver 'atril' (bible / book stand). The wooden frame, either mahogany or red cedar, is encased in heavy hand hammered sheet silver with marvelous hand chasing and repousse throughout. 'The Lamb of God', encircled by a clover shaped rondel and four winged cherubs, is featured in high relief / repousse on the front panel. The sides and back are devoid of decoration.
950 - 980 silver. Overall quality of craftsmanship is superlative.
