This expertly carved colonial table from the 18th century features a molded top over a single heavily carved drawer, carved pilasters and a foliate carved apron in the form of overlapping acanthus, all raised on turned and chip carved legs. The carving on the front drawer includes a large heart flanked by armorial crests and matched foliate motifs. The acanthus carved drawer pull, amazingly original and intact, is a masterful work of art in itself. The raised side panels, flanked by pineapple shaped pilasters, mimic the elegant carving represented on the front drawer. The North Wind, represented in the form of a mythological creature, is represented on the back panel together with blossoming sunflowers and grape clusters. Peru. Circa 1750
