A stunning early 19th century Spanish colonial double sided reliquary with the 'Virgin of the Immaculate Conception' on one face and 'Our Lady of the Candle' on the other. The relic is hand carved in vegetable ivory, also known as tagua nut - from the Phytelephas palm found in the tropical rain forests of Ecuador. It is displayed behind the original 19th century beveled crystal -- inside the original silver filigree and gold case - a masterful work of art in itself.
Dimensions: 3 inches x 2.25 inches x 1 inch.
Condition: excellent, original.
