A fine and rare mid 20th century ceremonial huipil from San Pedro Sacatepequez, Guatemala - circa 1950. This two paneled huipil, woven on a traditional back-strap loom, is heavily brocaded in both cotton and silk with a silk randa down the center. Divided into quadrants and nearly saturated in 'mauvine' purple, multiple rows of elaborately brocaded peacocks and double headed eagles speak to the quality of this weaving and the expertise of the accomplished weaver who wove it. The selvages along the panel ends are hand wrapped and the ring shaped neckline is hand embroidered.
Dimensions: 51 inches wide x 50 inches long.
Condition: excellent, clean, original.
