This early 20th century hand woven and hand knotted Tulu comes from central Anatolia - circa 1900. The word 'Tulu' means 'long haired' in Turkish, and long haired Tulu such as the one offered here, were used in village homes as sleeping beds. Thick angora wool was a good source of warmth -- providing insulation from chilly Anatolian nights and frosty alpine air.
The main design feature of this Tulu is a doorway, niche or stacked 'mirhab' as it is known -- the 'mirhab in natural brown together with a beautiful natural white foundation. The hand spun angora wool is incredibly soft and supple with glossy patina throughout.
The selvedge is tightly woven and complete on three sides. One end finished in a flat-weave with hand tied wool tassels. Colors are all natural.
