Salesman Sample Sombrero
Extremely rare early 20th century hand made salesman's sample sombrero, made by the Tardan Company, the most important sombrero and hat manufacturer in Mexico. The Tardan company, located just a few blocks from the Zocalo in Mexico City, continues the art of hat and sombrero production today.
This 'sombrerito' sample is made of soft and supple felted wool -- adorned in silver fiber cord with heavy silver brocades at the base of the crown. The interior leather sweatband is beautifully preserved, as is the silk liner with the Tardan maker's mark deep inside the crown. The sombrero is offered together with the original hand made cardboard box. Circa 1910 - 1915.
