Anima Sola Retablo
A good 19th century Anima Sola retablo. Circa 1880. Oil on heavy gauge tin.
The Anima Sola represents the departed ancestral soul awaiting judgement in the flames of purgatory. The Anima Sola (Lonely Soul) may be invoked when a family member or loved one dies in sin or conversely, to send an enemy to a state of temporary suffering or misery in purgatory.
Inscribed: La Anima la mas Afligada de los Snrs Sacerdotes Se Venera en la Catedral de la Ciudad de Guadalajara.
Dimensions: 12.5 inches vertical x 9 inches horizontal.
Condition: in overall good, original unrestored condition with only minor paint loss.
