A large and impressive late 18th century Spanish colonial silver basin with ornately chased and hammered rim, hinged lion head handles, visible center mark and beaded edge. Shaped and formed by hand more than 200 years ago, using nothing other than the purest, unadulterated 18th century Andean silver, this basin was fabricated with little more than a ball-pein hammer, raising hammer, heat and an anvil. The silver was hammered, bent, worked, heated, cooled and annealed to become the beautiful creation that it is today. Observable stress and fissure marks are evidence of the difficulties associated with annealing such pure, heavy gauged silver.
Please note: other accessories are shown for scale only and are not sold together with this item.
Dimensions: basin measures 15.25 inches rim to rim diameter and 19.5 inches from edge to edge of handle. Rim is raised 3 inches high.
Condition: in overall excellent condition with only minor wear, surface scratches, abrasions.
