Price: $ 13,500.00
An assembled collection of 14 vintage Mexican card face masks.
These carved and polychrome painted masks, with elaborate hand-painted graphics and a colorful palette right out of DC comics, were indubitably a great source of inspiration for today's Lucha Libre wrestlers. In spite of the uncanny similarities, this particular mask is in no way related to Mexico's professional wrestling industry. It is instead designated for an entirely different warrior, that of the Moro character in the Dance of the Christians and Moors. In some collector's circles, these humorous masks are also categorized as 'card faces', a reference to the spades, hearts, diamonds and club suits which sometimes appear on the cheeks. Carved and polychrome painted wood. Circa 1940's.
Each raised on its own custom made display stand.
Dimensions: approximately 8 inches x 6 inches.
Condition notes: all in good, original condition
