Manastir Prayer Rug
Made from Karaman sheeps' wool, famous for its soft and lustrous pile, this antique prayer rug was woven in the Western Anatolian village of Manastir roughly 100 years ago. The focal point of the design, a white mihrab, is surrounded by symbols of protection, a saturated field of cinnabar red and marvelous six and eight pointed star filled border. The selvedges are hand wrapped and the borders are complete. Western Anatolia. Circa 1900 - 1910.
