San Nicolas Tolentino -
This rare 19th century retablo represents "San Nicolas Tolentino," - patron saint of sick animals, babies, mariners and souls in purgatory. According to popular belief, San Nicolas, a vegetarian, fell ill one day and was instructed to eat more meat. He was served a partridge and after making the sign of the cross, the bird came to life and flew away. Oil on mesquite wood tablet.
