This finely rendered 19th century folk retablo represents "La Purisima," also known as "La Inmaculada." As seen above, Mary is surrounded by billowing white clouds with a crescent moon and writhing serpent underfoot. A brilliant red sun face is partially obscured with one eye peering around the side of her cloak.
