#3628 - Saint Hedwig

This rare 19th century Mexican retablo represents Santa Eduviges. Saint Hedwig, one of the most obscure subjects in retablo art, is patroness saint of Bavaria, brides, jealousy and difficult marriages. She was known mostly for her generosity, bestowing all that she could give to the sick, the feeble, the impoverished and the imprisoned. It was this bountiful quality of gift for which she was most commonly recognized.

Dimensions are 14 inches x 10 inches.

Overall condition is excellent with only minor paint loss.
