This very sweet 19th century retablo from Mexico represents "La Purisima," also known as "La Inmaculada." As seen above, Mary is surrounded by billowing white clouds with a writhing serpent underfoot. A brilliant red sun face is partially obscured with one eye peering around the side of her cloak.
